In 2024, the board again supported the Venice Biennial, as the main funder of the 60th International Art Exhibition: Stranieri Ovunque—Foreigners Everywhere as well as contributing funds to Jeffrey Gibson: the space in which to place me, celebrating the first Native artist to represent the U.S. in a solo presentation. Commitments were also renewed for ICI, CCL, the Visual Culture Research Center, and the NGO Museum of Contemporary Art in Ukraine.
Additionally, Teiger Foundation extended its support to critical curator-led projects including Gulf Coast Artist Climate Collaborative, an initiative centering the needs of QTBIPOC artists in disaster-prone regions through participatory research and community engagement, sponsored by Antenna, New Orleans; Fire Ecology, a project facing and embracing the planned winding-down of the publication Art Papers and Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis’s exhibition And I Saw New Heavens and a New Earth, which will explore the partnership and activism of Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore, highlighting their resistance against the Nazi regime. We also supported MASS MoCA's Curatorial Exchange Initiative (CEI), which brings together six mid-career curators of color in a multi-year residency that supports their large-scale exhibitions and programs. While these strong, curator-led projects did not meet all of the eligibility requirements of the Call for Proposals, the Foundation considered them worthy of support for their contributions to the field.
The Foundation also made a major gift ahead of the planned expansion of the Studio Museum in Harlem, with an emphasis on curatorial activities that would follow the opening of its new building in fall 2025. The fund will support research, scholarship, travel, and exhibition production, among other activities conducted by the Studio Museum's curatorial team.
Another major gift established the Teiger Foundation Exhibition Fund at MoMA PS1, to honor the legacy of David Teiger on the 10th anniversary of his passing in December 2014. David Teiger was the first trustee MoMA nominated for the newly formed PS1 board in 2000, and his passion for contemporary art and exhibition-making was reflected in his hands-on involvement with the organization. Aligned with David Teiger’s philanthropy and belief in PS1’s curatorial excellence, the Exhibition Fund directly supports the PS1 curatorial team by providing funding for their exhibitions.
